Bell Tower of St. Sophia Cathedral

About

The highest point of the historic center. At a height of 78.5 meters, you can capture the best panoramas of the city. After climbing 298 steps, you will reach a spacious observation deck beneath the gilded dome. From here, the whole city is laid out before you: cathedral domes, the Vologda River with its bridges, the roofs of old buildings, and the greenery of parks. Pay attention also to the belfry itself: it has preserved 24 old bells from the 17th–19th centuries. Among them are the “Great Swan,” cast by the creator of the Tsar Bell, Ivan Motorin, and the ancient “Sentinel” from 1627.
