Peter and Paul Fortress

About

The place where Saint Petersburg began. The fortress’s foundation day is considered the city’s birthday. The Peter and Paul Fortress houses a former prison and the burial site of Russian tsars. The grounds are filled with architectural landmarks, museums, a functioning Mint, and the wooden Ioannovsky Bridge. While strolling across it, try to toss a coin onto the pedestal of the Hare Monument — it’s believed that doing so will help make your wish come true.

Saint Petersburg, Peter and Paul Fortress, 3, Hare Island
Opening hours: daily; Wednesday closed; territory open 7:00 AM – 8:30 PM; exhibitions 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM.
