Rukavishnikov Estate

About

In the 19th century, the mansion of the wealthy Rukavishnikov merchant family was considered the most luxurious house in Nizhny Novgorod. In 1924, the estate was handed over to the local history museum, which operated there for many years. After restoration, the interiors regained their original appearance, turning the estate into one of the most vivid monuments of the era when Nizhny Novgorod was known as the "pocket of Russia." Today, the estate houses a branch of the Nizhny Novgorod State Museum-Preserve, featuring exhibitions about the Rukavishnikov family, merchant life, and the Nizhny Novgorod Fair. The museum has 25 exhibition halls presenting the region’s history and the finest collections of decorative and jewelry art from its archives.
