Tula State Weapons Museum

About

One of the oldest museums in Russia, with a history dating back to 1873.
Tula is known as the city of gunsmiths. Weapons production started here as early as the late 16th century, which makes this museum dedicated to the craft a special place in the city.
The main exhibition is housed in a futuristic helmet-shaped building on the embankment, with 15,000 exhibits ranging from medieval swords to modern assault rifles.
You can also see a fine rifle that was created with the involvement of the Russian Empress Catherine the Great, the famous Mosin rifle, and amazing miniatures — tiny 4.5 cm revolvers that fit in a matchbox.
In the Kremlin branch, there is an exhibition about the defense of the Great Dyke — a defensive line from the 16th-17th centuries. Here, you’ll see a diorama of the siege of the Tula Kremlin by the troops of Khan Devlet-Giray in 1552.
The figures of ancient warriors are crafted with jewel-like precision — the Khan’s clothing has been recreated using 16th-century techniques, and all metal elements from helmets to stirrups are copied from authentic artifacts.
