V. Polenov Estate Museum

About

A unique estate complex on the picturesque banks of the Oka River.
The estate was built at the end of the 19th century by famous Russian artist Vasily Polenov. The artist personally designed all the buildings in an original style, which art historians call "Polenov's style" — a blend of Novgorod architecture, European traditions, and northern Russian architecture.
The large house, the so-called abbey and admiralty, and the half-timbered barn have remained virtually unchanged.
In addition to Polenov's paintings, the estate exhibits works by other famous Russian artists, including Shishkin, Levitan, Vasnetsov, and Repin.
The estate also features a folk theater continuing the traditions laid by Polenov.
