16th Century Turkish Baths

An architectural monument from the Ottoman Empire.
The design of the Turkish baths ensures that steam is evenly distributed throughout the room, coming up from below. The ceilings had small round holes — they let in light, regulated humidity, and temperature.
From time to time, the holes were covered with colorful caps — blue, green, yellow — depending on the position of the sun. This controlled the lighting and allowed people to gauge the time of day.
