About
A monastery founded in 1398 on the shore of Lake Beloye. The main treasure of the monastery is the frescoes by Dionisy in the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Virgin, created in 1502. These are the only fully preserved paintings by the master — a contemporary of Raphael and Leonardo da Vinci. More than 300 scenes cover all the surfaces of the church. Thanks to this masterpiece of ancient Russian art, the monastery is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
