Irkutsk Regional Decembrists Museum

About

The museum tells the stories of the Decembrists. These were participants in the Russian anti-government movement of the 1810s–1820s, mostly of noble origin. Many of them were exiled to Siberia as punishment. Much attention is also given to their wives, who followed their husbands into exile. In Russia, these women are associated with devotion, selflessness, and love.
