About
This sculpture depicts one of Russia’s most famous empresses, holding a scepter and an orb. At the base of the monument are figures of her close ally, Prince Potemkin-Tavrichesky, and the first three military leaders of the Black Sea Cossack Host, successors of the Zaporizhian Sich. On the reverse side, there is a blind singer with a guide and a list of Russia’s victories achieved with the help of the Kuban Cossacks. The monument was restored in the 2000s. Its original version was erected in 1895 to mark the 200th anniversary of the Kuban Cossack Host.
