Spaso-Evfimiev Monastery

One of the Oldest Male Monasteries. The mighty fortress walls of this impressive 14th-century architectural complex have witnessed many historic events. In 1445, a battle took place here between the forces of the Moscow prince and the Kazan Tatars, resulting in the prince’s capture and the ransacking and burning of Suzdal. Five hundred years later, the famous director Andrei Tarkovsky shot his film here. His film Andrei Rublev is a black-and-white epic about the life of the genius icon painter, depicting the harsh and beautiful Russia of the time.
