“Alyosha” Memorial

About

Standing tall and proud, the Alyosha Memorial is the iconic symbol of Murmansk. This towering statue of a soldier, watching over the city like a silent guardian, honors those who defended Murmansk during the Second World War. Officially known as the Memorial to the Defenders of the Soviet Arctic, locals lovingly call him “Alyosha.” At 35.5 meters high, it’s hard to capture the full monument in a photo — but from the viewing platform, you’ll get stunning panoramic shots of Murmansk and the Kola Bay.
